What Halves is

Halves is a shared record of what each parent spent on their children and what has been paid back. It records what you and the other parent enter. It does not verify those entries, hold or move money, and it is not a party to any agreement between you.

Not legal or financial advice

Nothing in Halves, including a statement PDF, is legal or financial advice. A statement is a record of entries as the parents logged them. Whether it is accepted by a court, a mediator or anyone else is not something we can promise.

Your account

  • You need an account, and you are responsible for what is entered under it.
  • Enter honestly. The value of the ledger to both of you depends on it.
  • Only invite people who should see the household. A viewer sees everything in it.

What we keep

Nothing is deleted. A mistake is voided and stays in the history, and an account that is closed is deactivated rather than erased. This is deliberate: the other parent relies on the record, and a ledger that can be quietly rewritten is worth nothing to either of you. See the privacy page for what this means for your data.

Availability

Halves is provided as it is, without a guarantee of availability or of fitness for any particular purpose. We may change or stop the service. If we stop it, we will give you a way to download your records first.

Ending it

You can leave a household or ask us to close your account at any time from settings. We may suspend an account that is used to harass someone or to break these terms.
